Can I use MUVO on my hair extensions?

12 Sep

YES! MUVO not only gives you toning results on your coloured & natural hair but can also be safely used on hair extensions.

MUVO Ultra Blonde and hair extensions.

Toning hair extensions with our MUVO Ultra Blonde can be a very effective way to quickly counteract any yellow tones. When the hair extensions are light blonde we recommend doing this quickly, watching constantly as the hair changes colour.

Wefts, tape and other hair extensions are recommended to be toned before initial application. We mention this because hair extensions can tone differently.

Methods for hairdressers.

Application methods can vary, but we strongly advise doing a strand test and follow our “better safe than sorry” guidelines. If you’re quite confident and have experience with MUVO, you may feel that you can tone after the extensions are applied. This is up to you as the hairdresser, and a decision to make once all the information is obtained.

Make sure to ask the client what brand and type of extensions they are supplying if you are not yourself choosing the extensions. This way if you are not supplying the extensions in the salon you can at least do your research on how they tone etc before the client comes in. Don’t forget to suggest using MUVO products at home to maintain toned hair.

Hairdresser in Action

Not a hairdresser?

Feel confident using MUVO toning shampoos by following the guidelines mentioned below. Doing a strand test on your hair extensions will allow you to reach your toning goals easily. If you’ve gone too far, use MUVO Totally Naked Shampoo 1-2 times to wash out excess toning results, then follow up by conditioning with the nourishing MUVO Totally Naked Conditioner.

If you need more toning results just leave for longer, or towel dry extensions and apply MUVO Ultra Blonde Shampoo 1-2 times for a longer amount of processing time. Don’t forget to follow up with MUVO Ultra Blonde Conditioner to lock in silky blonde results.

We have found that once your extensions have been initially toned with MUVO Ultra Blonde, then the second application will not tone (grab) as quick as the first time around.

Because hair extensions have been chemically treated in some way (even if they are human hair extensions) they will ALWAYS tone differently to your own hair, regardless of whether your own hair is colour-treated or not.

Following our guidelines can enhance and tone your extensions beautifully. The level of blonde your hair extensions will determine exactly how much brassiness can be reduced.

MUVO Ultra Rose and hair extensions.

Depending on how light your hair extensions are will determine how pink you can go. Achieve vibrant results when left on for longer and pastel rose shades when left on the hair for less time.

MUVO Totally Naked and hair extensions.

Designed as your frequent use shampoo and conditioner, MUVO Totally Naked is safe to use on hair extensions, keeping them healthy, shiny and soft.

MUVO Totally Naked can also be used to dilute the results on hair extensions! Just add the desired amount of MUVO Totally Naked Shampoo to MUVO Ultra Blonde Shampoo or MUVO Ultra Rose Shampoo for reduced results. Clever? We think so! You have the power to choose your own colour adventure.

Swish, Mix & Dilute – We’ve done the experimenting for you.

Firstly, you can never guess how hair extensions are going to process regardless of hair colour. So – we advise that you do a strand test of your hair extensions before you begin so that you get the results you desire.

MUVO toning shampoos and conditioners are free from peroxides, ammonia, parabens, SLES and SLS so there is no risk of damage to hair extensions, making it safe to play with and create temporary toned shades. FUN!

You will need a large bowl filled with slightly warm water. Add the desired amount of either MUVO Ultra Blonde Shampoo or MUVO Ultra Rose Shampoo to the water. The less MUVO, the less vivid the result.

Wearing gloves, mix until all the MUVO toning shampoo is dissolved into the water. Dampen your extensions before you add them to the solution (If you put the extensions in dry, they will absorb the toning shampoo too quickly, and you risk them being patchy).

Better Safe Than Sorry

Firstly, test one piece from the hair extension set. Dip it in the water, then remove after a few seconds. Compare to your untoned hair extensions to see that you have the result you want. If you think it has been toned enough, then you’re ready to tone the next pieces from your set. If not, repeat for a few more seconds, watching closely until you have the desired tone.

Once you have toned all your hair extensions to the desired result, rinse thoroughly with clear water under the tap. Then use a nourishing conditioner such as MUVO Ultra Blonde Conditioner, MUVO Ultra Rose Conditioner or MUVO Totally Naked Conditioner to seal in the toned colour you have created. This will keep the condition of the extensions silky and soft.

Rinse out conditioner, then brush through with a specific wet hairbrush or a wide-tooth comb. Dry and style as desired.

Being off shade is a dead giveaway that you’re wearing hair extensions. To make sure you have toned to the correct shade take a look at your hair extensions not only in artificial light but also natural light. Hair can look noticeably different in all types of light and can also appear a slightly different colour once dried.

We would rather you have the opportunity to tone your extensions a couple of times, rather than go too far on the first toning application!
