How to Prevent Fade & Maintain Red Hair at Home

21 Apr

By Kristina Russell

If you’ve got red or copper hair, you already know it’s not a “set and forget” colour.

What most people don’t know is this: keeping your red vibrant between salon visits can be ridiculously simple. You don’t need to re-colour your hair every time the tone starts slipping. You just need a basic top-up routine and a product that can refresh pigment while you wash.

That’s where MUVO’s colour depositing shampoos come in.

They’re not a permanent colour. They’re not peroxide. They’re a quick at-home way to boost tone in minutes and they wash out gradually over a few shampoos. That’s why they’re such a smart option if you love red but don’t want the maintenance drama.

Wild Berry Shampoo & Flaming Copper Shampoo are not the same

Consider these two shampoos as two different directions, not two versions of the same product.

Shop Flaming Copper Shampoo

Wild Berry Shampoo is for achieving cooler, deeper red tones. It’s the shampoo to reach for when you want berry, ruby, garnet, burgundy or cool cherry vibes, especially on medium to dark hair. It can also refresh fading coppers when they start drifting too orange and you want a cooler red kick.

Flaming Copper Shampoo is to create warmth and glow. It’s the shampoo for copper, ginger, strawberry blonde and that bright, warm reflect that makes copper hair look alive. It can be intermixed with Creamy Blonde Shampoo to customise the toning deposit for lighter shades of copper and blonde.

Neither shampoo is better than the other. They just steer your hair tone in a different direction.

So let’s ask your first question, what red results are you looking for? Cool or warm, berry or spiced ginger?

What results are possible?

Flaming Copper Shampoo is your warmth booster. It’s ideal if you want your red to stay copper, and keep that bright reflect between salon visits.

Wild Berry Shampoo can be used to refresh or create vivid burgundy, garnet or ruby tones on medium to dark brunettes and redheads. It can also modernise a copper by nudging it cooler and it’s a fast way to revive cowboy copper or browned-out ginger when your ends are fading.

Now the fun curveball.

Wild Berry Shampoo is not only for dark hair. On pre-lightened pieces, highlights, or lighter hair, it can give a temporary crimson rose, pinky-red, or rosewood-style stain depending on how long you leave it on. Start short, rinse, dry, then decide if you want more.

Should you buy both Flaming Copper & Wild Berry Shampoos?

If you love a customised tone, then yes.

Having both means you can control your tone depending on:

  • the season
  • how your hair fades
  • whether you want warm or cool results
  • and your mood!

Start simple – and the results are in your hands. Here are a couple of creative suggestions for you:

  • For a deepened red with warmth – majority Wild Berry Shampoo with a small splash of Flaming Copper Shampoo
  • For a brighter ruby red – half Wild Berry Shampoo and half Flaming Copper Shampoo
  • For extra copper intensity – majority Flaming Copper Shampoo with a small splash of Wild Berry Shampoo

That’s it. No complicated rules. Your hair will tell you what it likes after the first wash.

How to use a MUVO coloured shampoo without overdoing it

Here’s the mistake some people make. They treat MUVO coloured shampoos like a daily shampoo (and fall in love with the awesome MUVO feel!)

Instead, treat them like your top-up wash.

My best advice is to begin gently the first time because the condition of your hair and it’s colour will determine how strong your colour results are. For an at-home refresh:

  1. Shampoo on wet hair and lather through evenly
  2. Leave on for a few minutes
  3. Rinse thoroughly
  4. Condition

Want stronger results? Use it on towel-dried hair for more intensity.

How often should you use MUVO colour? Not every wash. Alternating works best and it’s also how you’ll avoid build-up and uneven ‘grab’. A simple rule is to use a colour depositing shampoo every second or third wash, then use your regular shampoo (like Totally Naked Shampoo) in between.

Want your red to stay vibrant between salon visits?

Choose Wild Berry Shampoo for richer berry reds, choose Flaming Copper Shampoo for brighter copper tones, or grab both if you like to customise.
