Guide for MUVO addicts – How to avoid murkiness when MUVO toning.

30 Jul

Now that you’ve all got your heads (and hands) around what these amazing toners can do we need to get to the nitty-gritty of how to use these products correctly, avoiding overuse and unrealistic expectations.

Put your hands up if you love MUVO! We all can agree on the amazing benefits of Ultra Blonde & Ultra Rose.

Helpful tips when using MUVO toners.

Wait before you create

Our toning shampoos are developed to support your new look. It’s advised that you allow your hair colour to settle after a salon visit before interfering unnecessarily.

Maintain your mane

MUVO toning shampoos should only be used once or twice a week or every second wash. MUVO Ultra Blonde, Coolest Brunette, Ultra Rose, Creamy Blonde, Just Peachy and Flaming Copper can all enhance colourists work long after your last visit if used only as a top-up or refresher. Overuse of toning shampoos can sometimes lead to unwanted murky tones. Balance is key here.

Time does matter

Knowing how long to leave our toners in your hair is important… for blondes seeking to remove yellow tones with MUVO Ultra Blonde, it will depend on the current state of your individual hair health & colour history v’s desired results.

Generally speaking, if your hair is bleach blonde (on the scalp) and is lifted to the maximum level you will need to leave in for approx. 5-10 minutes. But if your hair is partially highlighted, we recommend to leave in for approx. 2-5 minutes.

For the adventurous rose, peach or copper inspired hair colours, desired results will determine how long you leave the toning shampoos in your hair for. Generally speaking, you will get more predictable results on evenly highlighted hair. For example when using Ultra Rose Shampoo, for a light pastel pink tone leave in for approx. 1-2 minutes. For a deeper, more vibrant result leave in for approx. 5-10 minutes.

To sum it up – all hair is different, and you will need to play around with time variations to achieve your desired result. Your hairdresser will be able to help advise a suitable regime for your hair goals. So always consider how frequently you use MUVO and the length of setting times for your hair.

Tips to remove murky tones.

Ok, so you’ve done a whoopsie! You’ve toned your hair immediately after a colour, or you’ve overused MUVO and it’s looking on the murky dull side. The grass should be the only thing that’s greener!

Try a cleansing shampoo

Try a cleansing shampoo

The solution may be as simple as applying MUVO Deep Cleansing Shampoo to your hair to remove the build up of colour. If it’s still persistent, and you’re a little unsure, there are numerous professional colour removers on the market and you may need to visit your professional salon to have the colour removed. A direct dye lifter can be applied and monitored with the watchful eye of your stylist.

Avoid the same steps that got you here

Keep in mind that MUVO toners will deposit colour onto the hair cuticle… so if you want to play it safe, we recommend that you dilute MUVO toners with MUVO Totally Naked (stripped bare – completely free of colour) until you build awareness of the product and feel confident enough to achieve what you want….or as mentioned earlier, use our toning shampoos once a week or every second wash.

Remember to follow these tips for best results. If you’re not sure, reach out to your stylist or connect with us here at MUVO. We are here to help you on your creative colour journey!
